Public comment period open on aquaculture lease application

Western Bay Oyster Company, LLC has applied for a limited-purpose (experimental) aquaculture lease to grow America and European oysters using bottom and suspended culture techniques on 3.7 acres located south of Old House Cove/KOA campground, Western Bay, Bar Harbor. Other compatible uses of the area would be permitted. The application is posted on the DMR website at www.maine.gov/dmr/aquaculture, under “Pending Aquaculture Lease Applications.”

The Commissioner announces a public comment period for this application. A public hearing is required only if requested in writing by five (5) or more interested persons prior to the comment deadline.

Aquaculture lease issued in Ellsworth

The Commissioner has issued a 10-year lease, TAUN HB4, on 5 tracts totaling 27.88 acres located in Taunton and Hog Bays in the Towns of Franklin, Hancock, and Sullivan, Maine, to Taunton Bay Oyster Co, Inc. located in Ellsworth, Maine for the suspended and bottom cultivation of American oysters. The lease must be marked in accordance with U.S. Coast Guard and DMR requirements. Dragging, shellfish harvesting, and mussel washing are prohibited on the lease site. Navigation and fishing are permitted in the open areas of the lease. Aquaculture is restricted on certain tracts to protect other species. Other public uses that are not inconsistent with the purposes of the lease are allowed by the lease statutes, 12 MRS §§ 6072, 6072-A, & 6072-B. Public hearing on Oktoberfest license

LIQUOR LICENSE APPLICATION AND SPECIAL AMUSEMENT PERMIT
The Southwest Harbor and Tremont Chamber of Commerce has applied
for a Special Amusement Permit and Liquor License Renewal for Oktoberfest
activities to be held on October 10 and 11, 2014, at the Smuggler’s Den Campground
located at 20 Main Street, Southwest Harbor and further identified on the Southwest
Harbor tax maps as Map 002, Lot 019. Public comments on this application will be
